![]() When Shōya begins to panic after learning that Shōko wants to move to Tokyo, Miyako gives him a knowing smile and even suggests that he could go with Shōko. ![]() Though they aren't shown interacting very often, Miyako understands how close Shōko has become to her son and is implied to believe that Shōya has feelings for her. Their last direct interaction is when the Ishida and Nishimiya families have dinner together in Chapter 55, where Miyako is seen politely pouring shiso juice into Shōko's cup, her conflicted feelings resolved now that Shōya has woken up. She awkwardly walks away from Shōko, asking to talk after Shōya has woken up. As Miyako describes, she could comfort Shōko, yell at her, or even talk to her with a smile, but none of it would feel genuine. Miyako begins feeling conflicted and doesn't know what to say to Shōko when they meet again in Chapter 49. Miyako initially doesn't know how her son had gotten injured, only learning the truth when Yuzuru shows her a photo of the event. Miyako wouldn't see Shōko until several years later, after her son had fallen into a coma to save Shōko from taking her own life. ![]() Ultimately, Miyako decides to go with Shōko's choice and though Yaeko is very displeased, Shōko gives Miyako a polite bow to thank her. ![]() Miyako was put in a tough spot when Yaeko disagreed with her daughter's choice and wanted to force a shorter haircut on her. Shōko Nishimiya: Miyako first meets Shōko when she gives her a haircut a few months before the young girl transferred to Suimon Elementary. Miyako appears to have grown fond of Yuzuru, with Shōya telling Yuzuru that she's loved by Miyako and Maria when he's helping her work through the grief of losing her grandmother. Miyako lets Yuzuru sleep in her home and starts to get acquainted with her after Yuzuru begins coming over more often to hang out with Shōya and Maria. Yuzuru Nishimiya: Miyako first meets Yuzuru when Shōya brings her to their home so can be fed and recover from fatigue. Their friendship continues into the final chapter, where Yaeko is seen getting a haircut from Miyako. Things improve between the two when the Ishidas and Nishimiyas have dinner together after Shōya recovers from his coma, with Miyako and Yaeko sending the kids to the store so they can talk things out and are seen casually drinking and chatting when they return. At the hospital, Miyako is surprised when Yaeko gets into a dogeza pose and sincerely apologizes to her, unaware that her son saved Shōko from taking her own life until Yuzuru shows her a photo of the event. The two don’t interact for several years until Shōya befriends Shōko and eventually risks his life to save her. When returning to her son, Miyako is seen with an injury to her right ear lobe, though it’s unclear whether she did it to atone or if Yaeko hurt her. Yaeko lies to her about Shōko not being there and instead asks her to talk at a nearby café. When Shōya began bullying Shōko, Miyako did her best to make things right by paying Yaeko back the cost of the hearing aids and attempting to have her son apologize. Their rocky relationship began when Miyako chose to give Shōko her desired haircut instead of following Yaeko's instructions, causing Yaeko to yell at her and leave the salon in anger. Yaeko Nishimiya: Initially, Miyako and Yaeko did not get along, though they later became friends after reconciling.
